"Outstanding Food Service"
Dec 4, 2013
Our first night in Ucluelet was made special as we went to this restaurant for our dinner-tired after a long rainy drive from Victoria. The food was exceptional-every bit as good as in Quebec, Montreal or Toronto and literally just around the corner from our B&B. The chefs were clearly enthusiastic about the preparation of their dishes.
"Most enjoyable - again"

I wrote about this restaurant in October and said that I hoped it would not close for the season when we returned in November - and it didn't. This time I dined with both my wife and son and all three of us raved at the experience. Although mid November, the place was still very busy and all three of us had their special which was a fabulous Halibut dish. We were entertained by an excellent waiter so our first experience of dining at this restaurant in October and having incredible service at that time was no accident. The staff are well equipped and well trained. It was also interesting to watch different patrons go up to the open kitchen and chat with the chef and owner about how incredible their meal was. If you are ever in this area, you have to make Norwoods on your "must go' list of restaurants to patronize.

I had heard rumblings of good food coming out of a small restaurant in Ucluelet, raves from friends who know how to dine. Unable to find a table last year, I made sure to make a reservation the next time I found myself in the area. I was blown away by the thoughtful cooking, excellent plating, all deftly presented and with a fully knowledgeable staff. Don't think you'll find a better meal in Ucluelet, maybe even Vancouver Island.

Relaxed chic atmosphere, very knowledgeable and laid back sommelier, who doesn't push the more expensive wines, fresh local products with a modern, Pacific Rim twist. Richard Norwood's cooking would grace any big city. Indeed his restaurant is as good as anything in Vancouver. Scallops and octopus were perfectly cooked. Halibut and tuna dishes hit the spot. You can watch the chefs cook as you eat ...nothing to hide, everything to show off.
"First Impressions Count ... and this was excellent"

This restaurant was recommended to me by the management of the Black Rock Resort and also the Whiskey Landing Lodge and my wife and I were not disappointed by dining there. The exterior is quite unpretentious but once inside you realize this place will be a real treat with the open kitchen and small, but very efficient dining room which is well appointed. We were told to ensure we had reservations and even though mid October is a slow season, the restaurant was extremely busy, an no wonder. The food was excellent and so was the service with the waitress having worked for many years in Tofino and also in Banff, where we live. The scallop and octopus appetizer was recommended to us by a waitress from the Wickaninish Inn's Pointe Restaurant so we both shared this dish to start. The error we made was not ordering our own as it is superb! The filets were cooked to perfection and served both hot and with all the accompaniments you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. We're only hoping this place will not close for the season as we are planning on returning to Ucluelet in early November and will dine there at that time if they are open.
